The tournament joins the American and Aussie Opens in utilizing replay technology.
Replay technology will be launched at Wimbledon this year.
Athletes will gain the ability to question particular decisions from the official, echoing the system already in place at each of the American Grand Slam and the Australian Open.
This technology will be operational on Centre Court and the number one court throughout the Championships and on the other four show courts when they are staging singles matches.
This step follows just a season following the AELTC introduced ELC, which effectively ended the longstanding tradition of line officials.
What Can Be Reviewed?
Players cannot to dispute the accuracy of the ELC system, but are allowed to request the official to re-examine other decisions, such as:
- Whether a tennis ball has double-bounced.
- If a ball touched an opponent's racquet or person during play.
- Possible interference at the conclusion of a rally.
Importantly, there will be no cap on the number of reviews a competitor can ask for.
A Recent Example
A recent example occurred in a recent tournament recently, where Daniil Medvedev initiated the review system against his opponent.
The British player admitted it was a difficult situation for the umpire, but believed his opponent had "used the regulations effectively."
The umpire watched a video and determined the player was guilty of hindrance, awarding the point to Medvedev.
Wider Implementation
This technology are not exclusive to Grand Slams. The system has been in use at the American major since 2023 and the Australian Open since 2025.
Furthermore, it is increasingly prevalent on the women’s WTA Tour, and by the coming year the ATP circuit plans to have the system implemented at every one of its tournaments.
Other Changes
Another innovation at Wimbledon 2025 involves the addition of visual indicators on scoreboards to support the verbal announcements from the ELC system.
This addresses instances where the crowd have sometimes been uncertain if a ball was in or out.
In other news, with precisely a century of days to go until the start of the Championships, organizers have further revealed an expansion in daily capacity at the qualifiers in the qualifying venue.
